What are the types of charging piles?

There are two kinds of common charging piles in the market, one is DC charging pile and the other is AC charging pile.

DC charging pile: DC charging pile is fixedly installed in some public places outside the electric vehicle, such as residential neighborhoods, residential parking lots, commercial areas, service areas, outdoor parking lots, electric vehicle charging stations and other places. It is a charging device that provides DC power for non-vehicle-mounted electric vehicle batteries by connecting to the public power grid. Because DC charging pile can directly charge the battery for electric vehicles, generally using three-phase four-wire or three-phase three-wire power supply, the output voltage and current adjustable range, so it can realize the rapid charging of electric vehicles, DC charging pile is also known as fast charging. DC charging pile due to the output power, general specifications are 30kW, 60kW, 80kW, 120kW, 150kW, 180kW and so on.

AC charging pile: AC charging pile is also fixed installed in some public places outside the electric vehicle, for electric vehicles on-board charger to provide controllable one-way AC power or three-phase AC power supply device. It should be noted that the AC charging post itself does not have charging function, it is only purely to provide power output, through the connection of electric vehicle on-board charger, in order to charge the battery for electric vehicles. Because the power of electric car charger is generally small, so AC charging pile can not realize rapid charging, AC charging pile is also known as slow charging. The output power of AC charging pile is not very large, generally 3.5kW, 7kW, 15kW, etc..

Difference: There are two differences between DC charging pile and AC charging pile. First, when charging, DC charging pile can directly charge the battery of the electric car, so it doesn't need a car charger, while AC charging pile can't directly charge the battery of the electric car, so it needs a car charger. Secondly, the difference in charging time, DC charging pile charging speed is faster, generally for electric car battery full charge only need a few minutes to two or three hours, while AC charging pile for electric car battery full charge time is much longer, generally need eight hours or so.
